Are You Illegal?  Then You, Too, Can Work For The House!

Happy Hump Day!

It’s been a crazy week, with teaching the grads, soon-to-be ex-Governor Cuomo, and this little piece of idiocy.

I’m one of those people who think rules are made to be broken.  That all progress depends on the unreasonable man, as GB Shaw would put it.

But if you’re a government official, and you circumvent your own laws, it’s absurd to think your population won’t follow suit.

The top of the house (as in the leadership) matters. If the bosses are corrupt or inept, the organization follows suit. We’ve seen it time and time again in any sort of organization. Enron, Credit Suisse, and the US government are only a few of the prominent examples.

With that said, let’s see what Pelosi and Co. have done this time.

Dreaming of Coming to America?  Work for Us!

The Democrats aren't even pretending anymore.

The House of Representatives just okayed a budget that allows hiring illegal migrants on staff.

I'm not joking here. It's pretty insane.

Illegal migrants that were let in during the Obama Administration and promised amnesty by the Democrats have been cleared to work for House members as a part of a budget approved this week on a party-line vote.

Only one Republican voted in favor of this bill.

AOC, of course, loves the $4.8 billion bill, which included a 21% increase in staff funding.

During the late, lamented Trump Administration, leftist efforts to grant these illegal immigrants amnesty stalled.

Now, Sleepy Joe Biden has said he will do everything to give them a path to citizenship.

This vote came two weeks after a federal judge ruled that the DACA program was illegal, ending all applications and putting dreamers’ citizenship status into doubt.

That didn't stop Democratic Rep. Tim Ryan from saying, “I am pleased that we are helping to ensure our workforce reflects the diversity of our nation, including by increasing funding for paid internships and allowing DACA recipients to work in the halls of Congress.”

I don't know about you, but illegal should mean illegal.

It seems the Democrats will completely ignore the rule of law by simply passing laws that overrule the existing rule of law.

Don’t Blame the Dreamers

Of course, I don't blame the dreamers.

I renounced my American citizenship because I had better options.

But let's be honest, if you're from Central or South America, the US is a far better option than you're going to get down there. So I understand why these guys go for US passports.

I’m also sure they’ll pay for it later, but that’s another matter entirely.

The Right Way to Emigrate

Interestingly, I received a lovely email from Rude Reader Jorge, who talked about how his parents moved from Cuba and became incredibly successful in America, despite not being handed anything when they arrived.

Their success was a fine example for him, and he’s had a great career, himself.

Happy retirement, George!

I’m thrilled to have heard your story.

It shows exactly what can be done when immigrants do it the right way.

As for me, I always had to get permission from the government to enter a country I was going to work in.

Back then, the UK was a bit more strict, if I do say so myself.  Do you think Singapore just lets anyone in?  Or Hong Kong?

Now, we are paying people for their illegal acts.

Incentives and Outcomes

As Charlie Munger once said, “Show me the incentive, and I’ll show you the outcome.”

Of course, now you’ll have more people coming over the borders, trying to have anchor babies.

It’s certainly not a good deal for Americans who expect to be protected by those borders.

What’s worse is that many non-Mexicans slip through that net.

At the U.S.-Mexico border, there have been more apprehensions of non-Mexicans than Mexicans every year since 2016.  Non-Mexicans accounted for 62% of apprehensions at the southwest border in fiscal 2018, marking the third consecutive year they outnumbered Mexicans.

It’s an incredibly fluid and dangerous situation.

I’ve seen this movie before.

Merkel’s Unilateral Gate Opening

It's very similar to the case we saw in Germany in 2015 when Angela Merkel opened up the German borders ignoring the eight countries that those supposedly Syrian migrants had to pass through.

We now know only 20% of all of those migrants were Syrian.

My wife, Pam, and I were vacationing in Kos in Greece at the time. We walked around the harbor where all the tents were, and all the trash was.

It was disgusting.

And all of these hulkingly huge guys, most of whom were not Syrian, were waiting to decamp to another island and then up across the route to Germany.

And why did they want to go to Germany?

Because Germany opened up its granny purse for them.

I hate to break the news to you, but this is about money.

No Welfare State, No Illegals

If you ended the welfare state, you wouldn't have any illegal immigration.

Of course, you’ll get the seemingly unassailable counterpoint that “diversity is our strength.”

Well, there are many chinks appearing in that armor.  But that’s for another Rude.

The main point is that governments simply cannot lead by example if it’s doing blatantly illegal things.

If you're looking at your government to show you how to behave, you're going to get a terrible lesson in behavior.

Nancy Pelosi doesn't seem to mind this at all, and certainly not Joe Biden.

A president, as an executive, should come down on the legislator, thanks to our checks and balances, and say, “No, I'm sorry. This is illegal, and I'm not going to stand for it.”

But that's just not how Washington plays the game anymore.

That means more of your tax money is getting taken and given to people who have not earned it, who have not been productive, and who have not deposited a single dime into your treasury.

Ah, the Old Days...

It’s outrageous. The only sad part of Jorge’s correspondence is that he, too, is now looking for a way to get out of America.

It's incredible that only a generation ago, the American passport was the gold standard in the world for citizenship. Nobody ever wanted to be anywhere else.

A few years ago, I was at a conference talking to a guy who renounced his US citizenship. He's much older than I am... and much richer.

It amazed me when he said, “Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.”

Then, he began to regale me about how great America was when he was there.  This was back in the '70s and ‘80s, I think.  He got downright misty-eyed over the place. He loved it.

But to protect his wealth, he was forced to leave. It was a brilliant, decision and he has missed the last 20 years at least of disastrous policy decisions in Washington.

Good for him.

So I'll close this Rude by saying, keep on reading and keep on asking questions. Write to asksean@paradigm.press.

I'm here to serve you and to help you explore your best option.  So you could keep most of your money, and you're not giving it to literal, actual strangers who are encroaching on your country's territory.

It's a privilege to serve you.

All the best,

Sean.

P.S. I apologize for my spell-check yesterday.  It looks like I wrote The Beetles as bugs, as opposed to The Beatles as the band. I swear it was my spell-check. I spelled it correctly the first time, and then, of course, spell check changed it because spell check is not musically inclined.

Did I ever tell you how much I ducking hate autocorrect?  Have a great day.
