Gold stocks have had a nice run up in recent weeks. But it’s been mostly confined to the senior producers. Junior producers and explorers have lagged. That may change in 2022, as the seniors look to replace the reserves some have allowed to dwindle over the past decade. For now, Dan gives guidance on all the open positions in the portfolio, including one buy that has been moved to a hold.

All of our positions that are still rated buy look attractive, especially after the correction in gold. Jim doesn’t expect this gold correction to last much longer, because a variety of factors could emerge to propel the metal into its next significant rally. Gold miners are earning fantastic profit margins in 2021 with gold in the $1,800 range. Their margins could rise further on the structural damage that’s being inflicted on the U.S. dollar by both Congress and the Fed. Since the gold market is tiny relative to the broader stock and bond markets, when these portfolio shifts are made, gold can rise very quickly on a small increase in demand. For now, Dan gives guidance on all the open positions in the portfolio.

It has been a very rough month for junior gold and silver stocks as Fed tightening began. Even if the Fed hikes rates a few more times, and the measured inflation rate slows, we are still unlikely to see a sustained period of positive real interest rates. The longer we are in negative real interest rates, the better gold looks as a store of value relative to the U.S. dollar. For now, Dan gives guidance on all the open positions in the portfolio, including moving one position from a buy to a hold.

Gold has traded well in recent weeks. It could be in the first stages of a historic rally. In this volatile market environment with a combination of inflation worries and war tensions, Jim and Dan see few willing gold sellers and a long list of interested buyers. Prices may have to rise dramatically to accommodate all the potential buyers. The recent rally in gold miners has much more upside. While it has been a disappointing year of gold stock price performance, we are very satisfied with the financial and operational performance of mining companies. The major and intermediate producers have produced record free cash flows, improved balance sheets, paid large dividends, or made smart mergers and acquisitions. The next year should bring much more positive attention to neglected gold stocks – especially if gold makes a sustained break above $2,000. For now, Dan gives guidance on all open positions in the portfolio, including moving three buys to a hold and selling five option plays.
